Life is crazy, right? Schedules are as insane as the daily commute to work. The to-do list is just as long and the pile of laundry is still on the bed to be folded--but it's already 8 PM. Where did the day go?
When life is as busy and crazy as it is now, how can I even find time to build my relationship with God? In this blog post I'll share some ways that you can strengthen your relationship with the Lord no matter how busy you are.
“You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.” - Psalm 63:1 (NIV)
1. Make Starting Your Day with Prayer A Habit:
Making prayer a daily habit can transform your mornings, helping you start each day with peace, purpose, and connection to God. Whether you’re a seasoned prayer warrior or just beginning your journey, building a morning prayer routine can strengthen your faith and set a positive tone for the day. Starting each day with prayer allows us to invite God into every moment, creating a habit that aligns our thoughts, intentions, and actions with His wisdom and love. If prayer feels like second nature to you, mornings may already be a time of refreshing in God's presence. But if you're new to this practice, you might wonder where to start or how to make it a sustainable routine.
One of the simplest ways to begin is to set aside just five minutes each morning. Start with a short prayer of gratitude—thanking God for a new day and inviting Him to guide you through it. Consider using a prayer journal where you can jot down your requests, reflections, or specific verses that resonate with you. This not only helps keep you focused but also serves as a record of God’s faithfulness in your life. Whether you’re on your lunch break, waiting in line, or needing a quick reset in a busy moment, pulling out your index cards allows you to meditate on Scripture and recall God’s promises when you need them most.
Using index cards for memorization brings an added dimension to engaging with Scripture. The process of writing out verses by hand helps imprint them on your mind, making it easier to internalize the words over time. Plus, having these cards on hand makes it easy to review verses repeatedly, helping you commit them to memory. You might start with just a few favorite passages and add more as you go, building a personal collection of Scriptures that speak to you.
Carrying these cards to work or as you go about your day serves as a constant reminder of God’s presence and truth. In moments when you feel stressed, uncertain, or simply need encouragement, turning to your memorized verses can bring comfort and perspective. By making memorization part of your routine, you allow God’s Word to become more than something you read; it becomes something that lives in your heart, ready to strengthen and guide you anytime, anywhere.
3. Set Reminders for Prayer Breaks:
When we are running around with a busy schedule and maybe also our heads half way off, it's good to set a timer on your watch or phone to remind you to pray. Having a prayer schedule allows you to pause throughout your day to pray or reflect. Even a 5-minute break to reconnect with Jesus can make a difference.
Here’s a list of things you could pray about throughout the day:
Morning Prayers:
1. Gratitude: Thank God for a new day, health, and His provision.
2. Guidance: Ask for wisdom and direction for the day’s tasks and decisions.
3. Strength: Pray for the energy to face challenges.
4. Purpose: Seek clarity about how to glorify God in your work, relationships, and actions.
Midday Prayers:
5. Focus: Ask for help to stay productive and resist distractions.
6. Patience: Pray for calmness in dealing with coworkers, family, or unexpected situations.
7. Compassion: Lift up anyone you encounter who may need extra kindness or help.
8. Forgiveness: Reflect on moments of frustration or mistakes, and ask for forgiveness.
Evening Prayers:
9. Reflection: Thank God for specific blessings and victories during the day.

Colossians 3:23 reminds us to do everything as unto the Lord, turning even routine tasks into opportunities to honor Him. When we worship during daily activities—whether folding laundry, commuting to work, or cooking meals—we invite His presence into our ordinary moments. This intentional focus shifts our perspective, making us more aware of His nearness and strengthening our connection with Him.
Worship is also a powerful form of spiritual warfare. When we praise God, we proclaim His sovereignty over our lives and circumstances, pushing back against negativity, fear, and spiritual oppression. In 2 Chronicles 20, we see an example of this as King Jehoshaphat’s army defeated their enemies through worship. Instead of leading with swords, they led with singers praising God for His steadfast love. This act of worship confused the enemy, and victory was won without a single sword being drawn. Similarly, when we choose to worship during challenges—whether through singing, prayer, or thanking God amidst difficulties—we align ourselves with His truth, declaring His power over any attack from the enemy.
Incorporating worship into daily activities also fortifies our minds and hearts against worldly distractions. The enemy often uses busyness, discouragement, or frustration to pull us away from God. By turning ordinary moments into opportunities for praise, we armor ourselves with the joy of the Lord, which becomes our strength (Nehemiah 8:10). Singing worship songs while driving or meditating on Scripture while cleaning creates a rhythm of praise that drowns out lies and fills our hearts with God’s truth. Worship isn’t just about singing—it’s about dedicating every part of your life to glorify God, creating a lifestyle of victory and peace.
6. Lean on Short Devotionals:
Find devotionals that take 5-10 minutes.
These can give you the spiritual nourishment you need without requiring a lot of time. Here are a few I've found that I love:
7. Surround Yourself with Community:
This is sometimes a hard one, especially if you are an introvert. Like me. haha... I love people but man I also love being home with my husband and my pets.
This is something we've been stretching and growing in. We are trying to meet new people while also continuing in fellowship with our those who are already our friends and family.
We've started going to a church regularly again and a Bible study too. So That's been great. Engage in a faith-based community, either online or in person. Even if you're busy, being in fellowship with others can keep you encouraged in your walk with Christ.
