Instagram Tips To Make Your Life Easier & More Insta Worthy

Instagram is a fun and relaxing way to share your world with the rest of the world. You can share what it’s like from your point of view. In this blog post, I want to share with you some of my favorite Instagram tips, that will make your Instagram sparkle and shine.

1. First Off, Go On An Adventure!

It’s important that you share the goals you want to accomplish and also the steps you are taking to get there. The adventure is made up of the steps it takes to get you there.

This week I am sharing Instagram tips here on Instagram! Be sure to follow me and join the fun! Tip of the day! Take action. Do. Start now. Go on an adventure. 1. You only have one life. Go out into life with all you’ve got!! 2. Start now with your goals and dreams. In wildlife photography you’ll miss the perfect shot if you wait too long because the animals will move. So take the shot right away. Take a few. This is the same for reaching goals. Want to write a book? Start now. Finish it!! 3. Look for opportunity. In this photo, I am in Death Valley, California. We climbed sand dunes and my fiancé got a perfect shot. 4. Don’t miss out!! 2. Use Some Color

Something that’s really important on Instagram is that you keep all your pictures in a color spectrum or theme. Try to make sure that your last eight photos match in a certain way.

Some people keep using a color throughout and then change it up in the next eight images.

This week I am sharing Instagram tips here on Instagram! Be sure to follow me and join the fun! Color. Find your color scheme. It’s important that you make your pictures all feel like they belong together. And that they fit in with your bio. Could a person look at your last photos and be able to tell you what you do? If so, you’re doing a great job!! Use The app Adobe Color to figure out your color scheme. You can even use it to find colors to use in Photoshop or other programs. Check it out! It’s a really cool app!! 4. Reach & Show People You Care!

Reach out and connect with other people. The most important thing in social media and marketing is to focus on the relationships and friendships! That’s really the only thing that is important—relationships. It’s not about numbers or page views.

It’s about connection to other people who are interested in the same things you are. Building a community is super important!

  1. Check out the people who follow you and join the conversation. Just get to know them. And do not name drop your blog, or Facebook page, or the book you wrote, in their comments. That’s tacky and will turn off people around you!
  2. When people comment on your pictures or comment back to you on other people’s pictures make sure you comment back. Show people you genuinely care!
  3. Don’t write “Cool! Follow back.” on people’s Instagram comments, as it’s rude. Honestly, when people write this on my posts, I just delete the comment and avoid the person.

This week I will be sharing Instagram tips on my Instagram page! Make sure you follow me and join the fun! Instagram Tip Number One: Reach. Reach out and connect with other people. 5. Tidy Up Your Hashtags

I’ve found that it’s difficult to have a calming aesthetic when you have to read captions that are filled with tons of different hashtags. And then when there are a bunch of hashtags at the bottom as well.

If you’d like to clean up your hashtags, read on for a great tip!

Are You A Cupcake In A Cookie Cutter World: How To Be A Linchpin

how to be a linchpinThis is a very cookie cutter filled world, but what if you are a cupcake with icing and sprinkles instead of a cookie? If you aren’t like everyone else there is a good chance that some people will think you are “different” or “weird”.

At CoSchedule, where I work, I read Seth Godin’s book LinchpinFor anyone who hasn’t read it, it’s a brilliant piece of artwork. I loved it.

In his book he speaks about how some schools “stamp out insight and creativity” now that doesn’t mean that there aren’t good teachers out there because there are good teachers out there, but as Seth said much of society wants and trains people to be cogs in a machine. And that goes against being a Linchpin.

When I was in kindergarten, my teacher told my mom that I was creative and that people would want to change me. She told my mom to not let them. And sure enough when I got into higher grades some teachers thought It was weird that I was always dreaming and using my imagination. Some didn’t, but some did.

The world couldn’t use a cookie cutter on me. Continue reading “Are You A Cupcake In A Cookie Cutter World: How To Be A Linchpin”

Show You Love – A Challenge

I want the people around me to know that I love them. Just yesterday, my great uncle Arnold passed away. He’d been dealing with Alzheimers/dementia and was in a nursing home. It makes me sad. I really hope he knew he was loved by his sisters and their kids and grandkids.

Love, love others, Devin Berglund

This brought me to think about all the people in my life.

I don’t want there to be a shadow of a doubt in their minds, about whether I loved them or not. I want them to know. Continue reading “Show You Love – A Challenge”

My Summer So Far…

My summer has been busy.

How about yours?

I wish that my summer could be as carefree as they were when I was little. They were the days of laying on the hammock reading all day, while listening to the birds singing and the wind whispering through the tree’s leaves. But now, summer… is a lot like all year long.

Summer, Las Vegas, Life, Devin BerglundI wake up at around 7 am. Go for a run or a walk with my fiancé and then take a shower. This summer I was lucky to have my fiancé here with me for 6-weeks. He spoiled me with amazing breakfast and surprised me with lavish dinners when I came home from a long day at work.

By 9 am, I’m at work. I really love having a job. It really creates a sense of financial peace knowing that you can make enough to meet needs, but also to enjoy life.

But, I’ve also found that I want to have more of a passive income lifestyle. That would allow me to live the way I want to.  Continue reading “My Summer So Far…”

I Don’t Believe In Political Correctness

Our world has gotten so loud with
political correctness.

Don’t you agree?

It just seems like everyone believes they have to give their opinion even when they weren’t asked for it. What really bothers me is when people say things like “Oh, you shouldn’t do that or say that.” And when you ask why, they say, “Because, it isn’t politically correct.”

South Africa, Travel, political correctness, Writing, Love, Long Distance Relationships, Christmas, Devin Berglund

Honestly, I don’t get or believe in political correctness. I think it’s just a ploy the government uses to control people.

“African Americans…”

The other day I was on a blogger’s page where she was giving a critique of a writer’s pitch. The writer’s pitch was about a lady of color and the writer just stated the character’s color as “a black lady”.

The  blogger said: “I think you should change black lady to African American.”

Writer responded: “Why?”

Blogger: “Because that’s not politically correct.”

Writer: First off, I didn’t think there was a problem with stating her color, because I am black. And just because she is black, doesn’t mean she is “African”American.

I totally agree with you, lady!

“& American Indians…”

I grew up in rural Minnesota about 8 miles from an Indian Reservation. And the Indians call themselves indians. They don’t like being called “American Indians” because of course they are American. But they have adopted the title of “Indian”.

But other times I’ve had conversations with a person and when I said “Indian”…

Guess what?

I was censored with the statement… “You shouldn’t say that… It’s not politically correct. They are called American Indians.”

To which, I’ve politely responded, “Well, actually back home the Indians prefer to be called Indians. They actually have told me & others that.”

I believe…

A writer has creative power over the world of her story. I believe the writer (amidst the color they are. White or Black or Purple.) should be able to state the color of her character (even if she isn’t said color) instead of being censored or told “It’s not politically correct.”

When I read the aforementioned blogger’s comment I felt a slightly offended. I know I am white, but I find people saying those kinds of things judgmental. Also when people say, “Oh you shouldn’t judge.” Who is judging in those types of situations. What about the person claiming that you are judging? Isn’t that judging?

So WORLD, I will not follow your bossy rules when it comes to political correctness.

I am not politically correct.

I will never be.

I don’t believe in political correctness.

I just thought I’d cover political correctness today when it comes to writing a place realistically.

Same thing about Uncle Tom’s Cabin and Tom Sawyer. A few years ago editors went through the books deleting certain words. Honestly… that author put those words there for a reason. I believe they should be left as is. Yes, it is sad that those events happened, but those are the words that people spoke back then. It makes the story realistic and besides, it’s history.

When you say certain words can’t be spoken by certain people (because of color) isn’t that more racial and judgmental?

I will NEVER be politically correct, but I will be polite and respectful.

There is a huge difference.

Are you with me?

Getting Settled Into Vegas & This Week’s Goals

It’s officially been a little more than a week in Vegas for me. I’ve been busy getting settled into Vegas.

Las Vegas, writing, Devin Berglund, Story, Blogging

And that means some touristy things as well. I’ve actually never had a photo next to the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign. And to make it even more Vegas cliché, I might add that an overweight Elvis took our photos.

But besides all the touristy things one can get up to in Vegas, you might be surprised to know that really Vegas isn’t “JUST” the Strip. That is really the main reason why people come to Vegas. The Strip.

The majority of people who live in Vegas rarely go to the Strip. Vegas outside of the Strip, is kind of more so small town-ish feeling. I mean the traffic can be crazy and so can the lines in the Costco.

I have NEVER seen a Costco so crowded. And just so you know… the lines go on and on for ages.

My aha moment – The Moment I Knew I Was a Writer

I’ve always known I’ve wanted to be a writer

When I found out the meaning of my name – “Poet” it confirmed my dreams to be a writer. I love when that happens. You are just going about your life writing because you love it all to find out what your name means.

“Devin, your name means poet.”

A kind lady from the aha moment tour, contacted me through my blog. She asked if I’d be willing to share my aha moment – the moment, I knew I was a writer. I totally got excited and wrote her back.

“Of course, I’d love to!”
