Fairytales… I’ve always known you were REAL.

June 25th, 2014

Once in a while, right in the middle of an ordinary life, love gives us a fairytale.
I always knew fairytales were real. :)

I never thought this would happen to me, but I am glad it did.

On Wednesday, the 11th of June I went to Fargo with my sister for a girl’s day filled with back massages, Chinese food, manicures, and arial yoga.

10472727_10100236879055910_267441423687828009_nA pretty good day, right? It was. Later that night we needed to pick up my sister’s friend from college, at the airport. She was coming out to visit for the summer. We waited for her to get off the plane. But she never came. I was told to look for a small blonde. So, I watched for her, but all of a sudden a guy came up to me. I jumped out of my skin.

Could it be true?

It was Johan.

I thought he was supposed to be at his parent’s house though, because he’d told me he was headed to visit them.

But, it was all to cover up his visit.

He surprised me!

Here I thought this kind of thing only happened to girls in Hollywood movies, but yes my long distance relationship boyfriend gave me a surprise visit. I learned that my parents and sister knew about it as well. They had strategically planned with Johan for about 2 1/2 months. And I was oblivious. When he was there in front of me – I was so shocked. He actually had to tell me to hug him. After the shock passed I was so happy. I couldn’t believe it. And honestly, I still can’t! It was beautiful.

Here were the tricky elves. They got me good.

That night on the ride home…

He told me he was taking me on a trip to The Black Hills the next day. I couldn’t believe it… because life was kind of crazy the months before. The next day we packed up the vehicle and headed to The Black Hills. IMG_0002 Throughout our time there, it rained a lot. But, we did tons. Saw Mt. Rushmore and ate at some lovely restaurants, and saw some cute little towns. on June 15th the sun came out and strongly. It was a beautiful day. Johan took me to Harney Peak and we hiked up the mountain, which was 7 miles all together. Now, I have a love-hate thing with hiking. It is hard, but I love seeing nature in all it’s beauty. I wore a dress that day, because Johan and I had planned on taking pictures at the top of the mountain. Once we got up, I was so cold. I was definitely happy we brought a blanket and my jeans. We set up the cameras and shot a few pics. Then he gave me a short video to watch on his ipad. It was such a lovely video. Here is a screen shot. IMG_5014   …and if you zoom in… :) IMG_9891   At that moment I was flapping my arms inside my mind. It had me wondering… No… is he? Is he really going to??? Yes? Maybe i shouldn’t get ahead of myself. But, I think he is!!!  I was sitting down and then Johan came up behind me. “Devin, can you stand up.” I looked up at him in shock. “Sure, I guess.” I didn’t know how to go about it. I am slightly a nerd when it comes to some things. Once I was up, Johan knelt on his knee. 10404300_10100242242991540_5146479449934979305_n   I felt like a a major nerd. But, it was just Johan and me on the top of the mountain. We were alone among pine trees, rocks, and flowers above the land. “Remember when I told you what things I would change if i could be 13 again and know everything i know today, then different choices I would make? Well, I also kept coming back to one thing…I’d want to make sure I meet you so I can spend the rest of my life with you, Devin Lillian Berglund would you please marry me!” I still felt like a nerd to myself, but I nodded my head and swayed my back like a little child. (pictured above.) He held out a small wooden maroon box and opened it. A sparkling star shimmered inside. “Yes, sure!” I smiled. He stood and placed the ring on my finger. It was so gorgeous. IMG_5830 It was better than my dreams. I hugged Johan tight. Johan had a cute story to go with my ring. One side has my birthstones on it and the other side has his – They represent us. The small diamonds on either side represent our separate journeys. When they met in the middle at the biggest diamond is “US TOGETHER”!!! :) Love it. Love Him! 10491247_10100240154387120_8099786012692948504_n

The necklace I am wearing is a locket from my future mother and father in-law. It is beautiful. Johan told me they said it was a “Welcome to the family” present. So nice of them! :D

I ended up wondering why it was so important that my mom and sister said we needed manicures. haha… now I know.
