One day I was really craving sweets.

Sweets of all kinds.

Chocolate Chip Cookies. (But, I didn’t make any.)

Mini Reeses Cups. (Problem… I had these in my closet.)

Snickerdoodle Cookies. (But, I didn’t make them either.)

Hershey Kisses Hugs. (Problem again, I had these in my closet too… *Stars light up Devin’s eyes* But, aren’t they amazing?)

I wanted my sweets. And I had some.

Do you know this feeling? And do you wish your inner fat kid would back off? I know how this feels. If you were just nodding your head up and down – then I can help you.

Things To Help Ward off Your Inner Fat Kid…

I actually snapped this picture when I was craving those oreos. I mean, really... they even decorated them in a way that is pleasing to the eye. But hey, I said no! :)

1. Learn How to Say No at the Supermarket

In the past, when I’ve been at the supermarket, I’ve been tempted to just throw things in the cart.

Oooh, Oreos. I will only have a few at a time. Oooh, Pop (for anyone who doesn’t live in Midwestern America, that is Soda or Coke. haha… just thought I’d clarify.)

But this is very important, don’t just let your eyes binge on everything and anything in sight. Tell yourself no. You will feel good when you have walked past it knowing that you are healthier without it. Say, “NO!” to your inner fat kid.

2. Get Healthier Options to Substitute Your Sweet Cravings

Instead of buying sugary sweets and doughy yumminess check out the fruits. Also check out this website for the fruits that are in season near you. You should shop the perimeter of the store because that is where you will find the freshest and most natural foods.

3. If, You Have Sweets In Your House.. (Have 1 serving of your favorite sweets a day.)

I wouldn’t recommend going cold turkey with sweets. I’ve done it before and it isn’t pretty. After doing that I ended up falling into a binge and it REALLY wasn’t pretty.

My recommendation (as a sweet lover and not as a doctor) is to have 1 serving of something sweet you love per day.

That means if you have your favorite creamy Starbucks drink, then you must say no to those delicious snickerdoodle cookies your mom made. Pick and choose. Which will you pick?

I’ve found this extremely helpful.

4. Drink Up…

I’ve found that when you are craving sweets, sometimes you are just thirsty. Fill up your water bottle and drink up. To sweeten it up, have you ever thought of putting strawberries and mint leaves in your tea? How about mango or peach slices? Or cucumbers?

No??

You are missing out!! It spices up your water!

5. Think of Ways to Reward Yourself Without Food

I laughed once when I heard someone say, “Don’t reward yourself with food, you aren’t a dog.”

Isn’t that true?

I’ve found that I really enjoy shopping for clothes more now, since I’ve lost weight. It’s more fun when you feel good in the clothing.

Another thing I love doing to reward myself is the spa. Or going to a book shop with a tea shop inside. Perfect getaway from the world.

Now, what about you? What are some ways that you have helped control your cravings?

  1. I agree that when you limit the foods you crave, you just want it more and it causes a person to binge.
What helps me is going for a walk or figuring out something positive to do to reward yourself if you resist.
