Everyone else litters.

Everyone else does it.

I haven’t heard that statement in a long time. Honestly, I thought it was hidden and locked away in abandoned lockers of elementary and junior high schools. Today taught me different.

“Oh my gosh! They just littered.” My sister yelled while looking out the window. A large woman plopped into her car. Slurping from her A&W cup, before rolling down her window and throwing it out into the parking lot near our car. In disgust, I opened the car door and said while pointing at her garbage, “Hey lady, you should pick that up.” I could tell she’d heard me, but was ignoring me. So, I repeated myself, “Hey lady, you should pick that up.”

Finally she looked at me, but I didn’t see what was going to come out of her mouth.

“I don’t have to,”she stuck her upper lip out, “everyone else does it and litters.”

I wonder what my face looked like when she said that. I am sure that if everyone was littering our planet would be a lot more disgusting.

“Does that make it right?” I said.

She rolled her eyes and looked straight ahead.

This has had me thinking the whole day. How can people do things like that and just look the other way? It’s disgusting and it shows no pride or respect.

  1. Devin, love the ideas you put out to get people involved. Good for you for standing up and sharing your opinion. Most people would complain about the person, but not confront her on the spot. Love how you turned it into a challenge for others to make a difference. My difference is not something that can be photographed but I love your idea!
